The 5 Fastest Green Cars | Electric Cars

The 5 Fastest Green Cars | Electric Cars

Green cars are becoming more and more popular as time passes. This is partly due to the fact that the world is showing a distinct preference for tech that factors in the well-being of the environment.

And the next obvious avenue for this to influence is the cars we drive — which may explain why green cars are something that a lot of manufacturers are taking the time and effort to create.

Yet the rate that people opt to buy these vehicles over regular cars is still relatively low. But why is this?

Well, some believe that green cars cannot match up to the robust, powerful nature of petrol and diesel vehicles. Others worry that charging times are too long (not realizing that, most of the time, you charge at home without having to stand next to the car on the side of a highway and monitor it).

Clearly, people who think electric cars are weak and slow vehicles need to realise that this simply is not the case any longer.

For a bit of fun in this vein, this post is going to explore the top 5 fastest green cars. We’re sure it will surprise some people and excite many others, and who knows, maybe one on the list will actually make it into your garage one day.

Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid

Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid Electric Vehicle

First on our list is the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. This model is a mixture of both an electric motor and petrol engine. It can go from an impressive 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds.

The vehicle has a combined output of 410 bhp and 590 Nm of torque, and as torque rate is usually one of the biggest benefits of an electric vehicle, we’re not surprised to see such impressive response rates from this vehicle either.

What’s more, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid looks and acts every bit a Porsche, which is probably why this vehicle is favoured so greatly by those wanting a fast car that’s also environmentally friendly.

BMW i8

As a vehicle from the monumental manufacturer BMW, consumers expect a stellar electric vehicle that will perform.

The i8 doesn’t disappoint.

This model is incredibly quick and can go from 0-62 mph (o-100 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds.

Furthermore, the i8 is also home to an incredibly impressive power output of 357 bhp, as well as a fantastic 570 Nm of torque.

It both looks great and has some of the best performance rates you’ll find on the green car market. We’re sure you’ll be delighted should you invest in the i8 in the future!

Detroit Electric SP:01

The fastest vehicle on our list so far, the Detroit Electric SP:01, can reportedly go from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in an astounding 3.7 seconds.

The vehicle only becomes even more impressive the further you dig, as it can also reach speeds of up to 115 mph.

The model is expected to integrate the very latest in Android technology,  and it is expected to retail at around £100,000, so although my bank balance won’t stretch that far as of yet, I am most definitely hoping to get the chance to experience driving this vehicle one day.

As you surely noticed, I used the terms “reportedly” and “expected” above. That’s because the Detroit Electric SP:01 isn’t actually on the market or rated by independent bodies yet. But let’s hope it doesn’t take too long to arrive, because it looks hot and exciting.

Rimac Concept_One

rimac-concept-one

Although not yet in production either, the Rimac Concept_One looks to be one of the most enticing and fast cars around, green or otherwise.

The Concept_One boasts an output of 1088 hp, and can go from 0-62 mph (o-100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds.

It’s a completely electric vehicle, and its price tag (wait for it) is reportedly going to be $980,000 (you know, “under a million dollars“). Hopefully 2015 will see the Concept One finally go into production.

And we can’t wait to get the chance to operate this sleek example of superior green driving at its finest… presuming someone lets us.

Tesla Model S P85D

Finally, we take a visit to the Tesla Model S P85D for the last vehicle on our list.
The S performance is up there with the greatest cars on the market, and is widely known for its impressive ability to jump from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds. This makes it our second-fastest green car on the list, but it comes in at a much cheaper price.

The Tesla Model S P85D is about $850,000 cheaper than the Rimac Concept_One. But hey, if you have $1 million to drop without noticing it….

Conclusion

So, there you have it, our top 5 fastest green cars. But we suspect this list won’t stay the same for long.

Every year, more and more green cars are filtering their way through to the market. And with manufacturers placing a lot more time and money into vehicles like the ones we have covered above, we doubt it will be very long before we see the electric car become part of everyday life.

But for now, it remains reserved for a select few who have taken the plunge and invested in the technology. And now the biggest question is, will you be next?
